Thanksgiving and Trees

After having our fill of a fantastic Thanksgiving feast--Thanks mom!--we walked a beautiful nature trail near her home. On Wednesday we completed our chapter in Patterns of Nature on trees, so it was a timely visit.

Unfortunately, the trail guide brochures were all gone, so we improvised and collected leaves along the way to match with the plaque at the end of the trail.

One of the highlights of the trail was being able to see "inside" a large oak tree that had been destroyed when struck by lightning in 2005. The tree rings were marked with dates to show how old it was and when it had been planted.
Sawyer even got to study his favorite kind of nature. These long-legged spiders were everywhere along the trail.

It was a beautiful day for a walk.
